Stairs and Railings
The staircase is the first thing people see from the front door. We replace carpeted and worn stairs with hardwood treads and risers, and fit new railings, posts and pickets in wood or iron, so the stairs match the floors and the house looks finished from the entry up.
What this usually includes
- Removing carpet and old treads
- Hardwood treads and risers, stained to match the floors
- New railings, posts and pickets in wood or iron
- Capping or refinishing existing stairs
- Landings and stair nosings to match new flooring
- Painting and finishing

How your renovation runs
Five steps, the same on every job, so you always know what happens next and who is doing it.
Request a free estimateSite visit and written estimate
Kumail comes to your home, looks at the space with you and talks through what you want. You get a written estimate at no charge, with the scope spelled out.
Plan, finishes and timeline
Materials, finishes and the schedule are settled with you before anything is ordered or opened up.
Permits and registration
If your job needs a building permit, or a basement unit needs to be registered with the City, we say so at the estimate and build it into the plan.
The build
Kumail runs the site day to day. Electrical, plumbing and heating work is done by licensed trades he works with regularly.
Final walkthrough
We walk the finished space with you, room by room, and anything that is not right is fixed before we call the job done.
Stairs: common questions
Can you match the stairs to our new floors?
Yes. Stairs and flooring are usually done together so the species, stain and sheen line up.
Can we still use the stairs during the work?
Mostly. Treads are done in an order that leaves you a way up and down, and we tell you at the estimate which days will be inconvenient.
